Every Sunday morning from 7 am to noon, the car park of the Kedron-Wavell Services Club, off Kittyhawk Drive in Chermside, becomes a
boutique market with a strong focus on fresh fruit, vegetables and produce with plenty of food trucks, craft stalls and other interesting offerings for everyone.
Over the years, there have been numerous attempts to open a market in Chermside and after several other northern suburbs markets have closed, this new market looks like it could be in the right place at the right time. Chermsiders (Chermies, Chermites, I am not sure what we should call people who live in Chermisde) are just beginning to discover this market, but many of those who have are coming back regularly.
The main attraction of these markets is their fresh fruit and vegetable stalls. If I have a choice, I only buy from the markets, partly because of the price, but often because the best stalls sell locally sourced produce that is often more delicious than what is in the supermarket. There are also plenty of hand made products, meats, seafood, baked goods and other products, as well as a nice collection of food trucks, food stalls and coffee vans.
While this is a small market they make everyone welcome, from live music to chill to while eating brunch, a jumping castle for the kids, water bowls for dogs and enough food options to please everyone.
Getting there is very easy. The location has free parking for people visiting the markets. You can also park at Westfield Chermside for 3 hours for free, which means you can grab fresh produce from the markets and then grab other groceries from the shopping centre. Chermside is a transportation hub with regular buses arriving at the interchange, which is about a 5 minute walk from the markets.
Overall, this is a great new market that is centrally located in Chermside with plenty of parking and easy access to nearby shops to give you the opportunity to do a complete shop in one location. People in the area are beginning to discover this market so go it is worth lending your support to this new shopping option in the North Suburbs.
