The main selling point whilst I was searching for somewhere was that it was cheap and close to public transport to get me around and near the venue, so I had no real expectation on quality. But I was very surprised to find that the location couldn't have been better, that it was very clean and comfortable, and pretty much had everything you could want for a night away from home.
The room I was in was really big and had a queen bed, a single bed, dining table and chairs a bedside table, large wardrobe, a large kitchenette with fridge, clock radio, TV, an en-suite bathroom and individual air conditioning. But that is not all you get a hair-dryer, iron and board, FREE wireless Internet and either a balcony or courtyard. They also have a BBQ area in the leafy courtyard, or you can relax in the lounge area on the first floor. It really is a quiet safe alternative to the hustle and bustle of the CBD and much kinder to the wallet.
Chermside Court Motel is located on the corner of Sparkes Street and Farnell Street within the leafy residential area of Chermside. There are a number of restaurants, a leisure centre, bowls club, RSL club and even a waterpark close by, so you are sure to be kept busy if you stay for a couple of nights.
Location wise it really couldn't be better because just a few minutes walk away is Westfield Chermside a huge shopping mall (the largest in Brisbane) with every type of shop and store and food place you could wish for. Westfield is always worth a visit, it was great to wake up and head there for breakfast before I started my day of museums, galleries and sights. Just outside Westfield there is a large bus depot, which will pretty much be able to get you anywhere you need within central Brisbane and the surrounding areas.
Rooms start from $125 for a queen room for one person. They have midweek and weekend specials too, so you can always find a good deal, check out the prices here.
If you are planning on going to the entertainment centre you must book taxis in advance. I assumed, quite incorrectly, that public transport would run till quite late to and from the venue. It doesn't! Luckily a very kind taxi driver agreed to take me and collect me later, saving me about an hour wait and higher prices, as demand is so high after a show has finished. From Chermside Court to the Brissy Ents Centre was about $35.
A great little motel with a family feel that is cost effective and well positioned in Brisbane. It is far enough out of the CBD to be a cheaper, quieter and safer, but close enough to get where you need to be in the city within 15-20 minutes by bus.
