Sparks are set to fly when corporate and community teams 'battle it out' in a social beach volleyball tournament on Sunday 22 February 2015 in support of the
Cherish Women's Cancer Foundation.
%%Cherish Women's Cancer Foundation is a Queensland-based not for profit organisation established in 2012, aiming to transform gynecological cancer research in Australia and improve outcomes for women and families fighting the battle.
The foundation supports world-leading research being conducted in Queensland, including major projects undertaken at the Queensland Centre for Gynecological Cancer (QCGC). In 2013-2014 Cherish supported QCGC Research funding over $100,000 towards research grants. Help us shine light on this indiscriminate killer, because every woman deserves a chance.%%
Hosted by Olympic Beach Volleyball gold medalist, Natalie Cook, the Battle Against Ovarian Cancer presented by Lexus of Springwood will help raise much-needed funds into more effective, less invasive and gentler treatments for women's cancer sufferer. Ovarian cancer in a disease that results from the abnormal and uncontrolled growth of cells in the ovaries.
The ovaries are two small almond shaped organs that are part of the female reproductive system. Each ovary measures about 2–4 cm across and they are on either side of the uterus. As there is currently no early detection test and a lack of symptoms in the early stages of disease, women are usually diagnosed in the late stages of the disease. It is often referred to as the "silent killer" because there are no early warning signs. More women need to be diagnosed at an early stage when ovarian cancer is very treatable.
Register a team in this social beach volleyball tournament (no beach volleyball experience required!) and get set for a day of sun, fun and sand. Video from 2014 event below:
For those wanting to take the competition up a notch, Cherish is excited to announce a new initiative for 2015 – the
