Chenrezig Institute is a quiet and peaceful retreat centre in the Sunshine Coast Hinterland, which makes it an ideal place to learn all about Tibetan Buddhism. Regular short courses are offered for anyone interested in meditation from beginners to advanced, as well as many different retreats and workshops.
Anyone is welcome to visit Chenrezig Institute to see the "gompa" (Tibetan style meditation hall), turn the giant prayer wheel and to visit the especially unusual Memorial Garden of Enlightenment. After all that exploring, I highly recommend sitting with a coffee or chai tea and home made cake in the Big Love Café overlooking the Sunshine Coast rainforest.
A delicious vegetarian lunch is served each Wednesday to Sunday at 12 noon in the Big Love Café and there is an interesting gift shop located downstairs filled with books, incense, prayer flags, clothing and beautiful hand made Tibetan trinkets.
Overnight guests have the option of staying in individual rainforest cabins, motel rooms or dormitory style accommodation, which are all maintained by a team of very peaceful volunteers. Whether you are just stopping for lunch, or staying for a weekend Buddhist course, Chenrezig Institute is a quiet place to spend some time, try to meditate, and guaranteed to nourish your heart and mind.
