Chef Lai Noodle Cafe is a small wonder tucked away down a lane and set across from Thuan Phat supermarket along California St (North). Don't blink or you'll miss it! It's on the left just before you enter the markets.

For the main dish, we shared a plate of Mee Goreng. Having been forewarned by a friend we asked for the chilli to be scaled back - this worked out nicely as there was still a good amount of heat through the dish. The flavours were intense, and maybe a little overbearing - good in small doses, so we were glad to be sharing.
This meal would not be complete and truly Malaysian if we did not wash it down with a good-sized mug of Teh Tarik. One of the better tasting varieties available in Adelaide, this was very close to the Teh Tarik we had back in Kuala Lumpur. They were served at just the right temperature with a good amount of froth.
All mains are well priced, ranging from $9-12 with generous serving sizes. Other menu favourites of ours include Roti Canai, Nasi Lemak (both the fried chicken and chicken curry options) and the Malaysian Spicy Nasi Goreng.
