Local tips on how to get to and from the airport quickly and cheaply.
Tullaramine Airport is Melbourne's International Airport and is located 23 kilometres from the city centre. This means that the cost of getting to and from the airport can be quite considerable for travellers and visitors alike. There are pros and cons with the various forms of public transport versus driving, or taking a taxi.
BY CAR
Although it is convenient to drive your own car, some of the long-term parking fees can be quite expensive, and it may not be economical to drive to the airport.
If you have a friend who is kind enough to drive you, this is a cheap and relaxing option for getting to the airport. Shout a friend coffee at the airport, and pay for petrol; or return the favour on another occasion. A small gift on return from your holiday doesn't hurt either.
TAXI
Taxi is a relatively expensive option, but it is convenient and can be booked. It is easy to book taxis online or use a smartphone app. A taxi is also a good option if you have several pieces of luggage to take on your trip.
BY PUBLIC TRANSPORT
There are no trains, trams, or buses that travel to the airport, and it is a long walk from the nearest stop. However, there is a shuttle bus that leaves from Southern Cross Station.
Tickets can be purchased online from the
SkyBus website. This is a great option for those on a budget, and services are every 10 minutes.
