Cost of living pressures be gone! As long as you don't always shop at
ColesWorth and use places like Cheaper Buy Miles, you will be alright.
Cheaper Buy Miles is a discounted food shop. Grant Miles started the discount grocer in Footscray 30 years ago, and the name is a clever wordplay on his name. Now, with the recently opened Fitzroy shop, he has four outlets.
As the sign outside says, it's all about combatting food waste. Cheaper Buy Miles is committed to reducing food waste and promoting sustainability in the community.
Many of the products are nearing their best-before date, but as long as you don't plan to store them for ages, they are totally fine. Many of the items I bought have dates stretching into next year.
The newest store in Johnston Street Fitzroy is conveniently located around the corner from Brunswick St. Its spacious layout makes shopping a pleasure. While the Brunswick store is beloved for its friendly staff, it can get crowded. The Fitzroy store offers a more relaxed shopping experience.
This new venue is also more central, as a lot of traffic passes this way. While it is a busy area, I have not had any issues with parking out the front on Johnson Street or around the corner. Outside the store becomes a Clearway after 4:30 p.m.
The incredible popularity of Cheaper by Miles has to do with the health-conscious stocks. Brands like Red Tractor pride themselves on supporting families and farmers on the land and creating products that are good for you, such as Table for Plenty with their air-popped rather than fried snacks and Eskal for their organic multigrain cakes.
To name a few.
Although what you see there today might not be there tomorrow, each time you duck in feels like a new foraging adventure.

However, there is always a wealth of vegan products and items for entertaining, such as cheeses, dips, crackers, and tonic waters.
On my last visit, the large bottles of Fevertree tonic water were 3 for $5 and in interesting flavours such as Clementine orange and ginger. If you wanted to buy a box of 8, it was $12. These mixers go for $5 each in the supermarkets. As for the date code, some were dated into 2025.
If you don't drink cow's milk, you are in luck because there is also a wealth of alternative milk, such as coconut and oat milk. These are usually around $1 each.

And there's plenty of healthy snacks for kid's lunches.
While there isn't any fresh produce, there are frozen items. Again, erring on the healthy side, such as frozen cauliflower rice and YoPro ice cream, ice-creams low in fat but highly delicious. I stopped buying them in the supermarket when they hit $13, but this box was only $3, and the date to use them was 2025.
The haul below cost me about $20.

One trend that's taken off on TikTok is people unpacking their baskets from Cheaper Buy Miles and marvelling at the significant savings they've made compared to supermarket prices. It's a testament to the incredible value you can find here.
Here's a glimpse of the diverse range of items currently in stock at Cheaper Buy Miles. From pantry staples to indulgent treats, there's something for everyone.
