These are some cheap meals (yet good) around Ultimo area. As a uni student, I sometimes only have $10 for lunch/ dinner.
So, here is a list of good cheap eats around the Ultimo area. Share this with your TAFE/ UTS friends! (If they don't already know where to eat!) Or, if you are next in town and is a bit low on cash, check out these awesome places.
3/646 Harris St This is directly opposite TAFE. $4 Pork Roll. Big Vietnamese Pork Roll that makes you go yum at the end of lunch. They have a range of rolls - chicken, pork, BBQ pork, meatballs. It's also quite healthy too.
4. Ramen Kan
Level 1, 90 Hay St, Haymarket
This Japanese Restaurant is located upstairs around the corner in Haymarket / Chinatown area (Close to Wagaya). It's sort of hidden away* however, it's still very busy at lunch time.
Pretty much everything is good here, rice, bento box, noodles, drinks. Good Japanese for $15.
Shop 3, 76 Ultimo Rd, Haymarket
You can't miss this shop. It's opposite one of the main entrance to Paddy's Market.
It's prominent and it's fast, good and easy. I believe this is a shop that most people know about or at least have walked past it. So, I won't go into much details. But basically, $15 for a big lunch set.
6. Pho Gia Hoi
711 George St, Haymarket
The 'Orange' Vietnamese restaurant on George St. This one is cheap, fast and decently sized. Noodles are quite authentic (in terms of Sydney cooking). You are looking at $8-9 for the popular beef noodle soup.
They also have a pork roll counter at the front - $4.50. I have tried both pork rolls here and on Harris St. Personally I like the Harris St pork roll better.
7. Bling Bling Dumpling
185 Broadway, Ultimo
The constant advertisement of $1 Dumpling got me interested in trying out their dumplings. This restaurant has a open kitchen view that allows people to see how dumplings are made.
Honestly, their food is a hit or miss. I have had enough Chinese cuisine and their dishes aren't exactly up there. But the $1 Dumpling is good of value.
This list is just some of my usual eat out places that I frequent when I am a bit low on cash. There are a lot of good shops in Haymarket area. Just ask the uni students.
If you can afford about $15-20 for lunch, there's good Thai at Satang Thai, 20 Quay St, Ultimo.
