What does a football widow do on a Saturday night - spend the night in the city seeing a live show or meeting up with friends but who wants to drive home after a great night out? Not me.
Recently I went to see King Kong at the Regent Theatre, my cousin and I decided to make a weekend of it wining and dining, seeing the show and then having Brunch the next day in the city. We were inspired by the the "Stay & See Hotel packages" on the Regent Theatre's website. The tickets for King Kong show were around $125.00, so we were really on the lookout for high class budget accommodation after all I was really stretching my budget if I went over $250.00 for the entire weekend, there was going to be two of us so although we couldn't split the show tickets or the individual meals we could split the accommodation cost.
So where did we look for our cheap competitively priced accommodation? On the web of course.
I began with $140.00 price in mind which I consider to be a good price for a Saturday night although as I was to discover you can get it for as low as $20.00 on some sites but it's usually backpackers and although the location maybe good, serious consideration needs to be given to what you hope to experience when you stay there. If it's quiet and tranquillity then these very low budget places may not the best ones to choose.
Ironically after all our searching and web-crawling we ended up getting a great deal through "Coxy's Big Break" TV show and we stayed at Fraser Place at 19 Exploration Lane, Melbourne we had to walk a few blocks to get to the theatre and I was a bit dubious when I discovered it was down a very "long narrow" seemingly deserted lane but there was two of us, so we managed OK and had a great weekend.
