Picnic on the banks of the Lane Cove River
If you're looking for a quiet picnic spot in the Chatswood area, add this little patch of green to your list. Located on the banks of the Lane Cove River, the Chatswood Rotary War Memorial Athletics Field is a park that's definitely worth exploring.
The name is certainly a bit of a mouthful to get out, but there's plenty more to this park than just an athletics field. Perhaps the main attraction is the park's setting on the banks of the peaceful Lane Cove River, just a short way away from Lane Cove National Park.
The park looks out over a relaxing stretch of water, and a jetty and canoe launching facility were established back in 2005. It's the perfect spot to launch a kayak and go for a leisurely paddle.
A boardwalk runs along the river's edge through the mangrove forest. There are rustic wooden benches and interpretive signs along the way if you feel like taking the time to explore your surrounds. A totem pole at the entrance to the boardwalk pays homage to the original inhabitants of the region and the importance of water in Aboriginal life.
