Chasing Yello - iPhone App Review

Chasing Yello, an App downloadable for the iPhone by dreamfab follows similar ideals to the more renowned App - Temple Run. The difference here is you control the escapee goldfish that has been so originally named as 'Yello'.
The story goes as follows; you have been released by an 'evil' 7 year old girl into a stream, and now she wants to recapture you. It is now your mission to get away, unfortunately for you what ensues is a never ending journey through one of the most perilous rivers a fish could encounter. Whilst taking on such a burden, you must also think about collecting points and power-ups throughout the game, which can last from seconds to minutes, depending on your level of skill.
All summaries aside, let's go deeper into the gameplay. The aim for you is to get as far as you can whilst collecting points and power-ups at the same time as avoiding logs, rocks, piranhas and so on. The points and distance you obtain during the games add up to a form of currency that lets you upgrade power-ups amongst other things in between each go. Theoretically, the more you play, the further you will get, practically it all depends on whether you can stomach being eaten for the 10th time in an hour.
If this rings any bells for you, it is probably because you have played Temple Run, or one of the many other similar titles available for smartphones these days. This is by no means saying that Chasing Yello is not original, they have made a clever job of twisting various characteristics to fit the whole fish theme, whilst making it entertaining even for those who have witnessed this form of game in the past.
There are some annoying features that really test your patience during gameplay, perhaps one of the most iconic being the rocket power-up that has a nasty habit of boosting you a nice distance, only to drop you off just before a sizeable rock, thus unless you have the reactions of Muhammad Ali in his prime, you will probably be stuck for options and will end up getting a face full of it. It takes a long time to get used to the sensitivity of the phone movement, often you will find yourself scraping along the sides of the river, which can be a bit of a distraction.
Aside from annoyances (that are present in most, if not all games) Chasing Yello is a highly addictive game. Once you begin upgrading and earning more points through collecting them and achieving greater distances, you start to build up higher scores, which in turn provides a significantly greater level of satisfaction than when you first start playing.
Generally it is a light hearted game, and is well worth the purchase.
