The Adelaide Youth Theatre proudly presents 'Charlotte's Web The Musical'. Based on the story by E.B White with music and lyrics by Charles Strouse. The packed house performances ran from July 26-27 at The Star Theatre in Hilton.

Directed by Ashleigh Olsson-Jones with assistance from Connor Olsson-Jones. Musically Directed by Esther Riggs with help from Ben Francis and Choreographed by Thomas Phillips this show was put together in only seven days. It was a great representation of the family classic story staring children aged 5-13 and led by the senior team members as their production team, the story of 'Charlotte's Web' came to life.

The story features around a pig called Wilbur (Taylor Tran) and his friendship with a spider called Charlotte (Montana Vincent). They met in a barn surrounded by animals and that's where their story begins. Wilbur (Tran) is a baby piglet who lives on the Zuckerman farm, he is very small and doesn't look like he will survive. Fern Arable (Kate Neville) takes it upon herself to care for the pig and names him Wilbur.

Wilbur (Tran) is sent to live on Fern's uncle Homer Zuckerman's (Sammi Guerra) farm, which is where she meets Charlotte (Vincent). She lives on a web above Wilbur's enclosure and soon they become great friends. Wilbur (Tran) loves his new life until the other animals begin to make him question it.

He lives in a barn along with Templeton the Rat (Sebastien Skubula), the goose and gander (Gemma Dandie and Alana Iannace) the sheep (Alyssa Greatrex) and lamb (Madeline Highman). They proceed to tell him of his fate "Mr Zuckerman is trying to fatten you up so they can turn you into to make bacon and ham".

In hope to save Wilbur's (Tran) life, Charlotte (Vincent) spins some words into her web in hope that people will realise how great he is. She spins 'Some Pig' which attracts publicity to the barn. Charlotte continues writing new words every few days including 'Terrific', 'Radiant' and 'Humble'.

Mr Zuckerman (Guerra) enters Wilbur (Tran) into the country fair in hope of winning a blue medal and determining Wilbur's fate. He wins a special green medal and is very thankyou to Charlotte (Vincent) for saving his life. However Charlotte (Vincent) has become very weak from all the spinning and before she passes away she leaves her 514 eggs for Wilbur to care for.

The show features a cast of talented singers and actors that kept the audience in laughter. Wilbur's (Tran) performance of 'Eating' was very enjoyable and the duet between Wilbur (Tran) and Charlotte (Vincent) to 'Who says we can't be friends?' was beautiful, both girls have amazing voices.

When Fern (Neville) sang 'Mamma, you don't understand me' you could see she belongs on a stage. She has such power behind her voice and is a lovely soloist.

Oscar Bridges who played Avery, Fern's brother, did a remarkable job. He has so much enthusiasm and talent for the stage. His facials and dance moves really stood out as a rising talent in the industry and Sebastien Skubula who played Templeton the Rat had amazing facials. His interaction with his character was very life-like.

The show featuring so many talented young actors was very enjoyable. The sound (Glen Hill) and vision (Craig Williams) was amazing. If you liked 'Charlottes Web' then don't miss out on The Adelaide Youth Theatre Company's next production Hairspray running from August 13-16 at The Arts Theatre.
