Explore Charlotte Pass Snow Resort with a Day Tripper Ticket
The winter wonderland that is Charlotte Pass Snow Resort
Did you know that Charlotte Pass is regarded as the highest ski resort in Australia? At 1,765 metres Charlotte Pass has the highest base elevation of all the Australian ski resorts and during the winter this makes it completely snowbound.
Being snowbound has its advantages – the breathtaking, uninterrupted alpine scenery for one, plus there are far fewer people, no cars in sight and virtually no lift queues.
Being snowbound has its advantages
The main disadvantage is getting there is not easy or straightforward. However, there is a solution at hand, it’s called the Charlotte Pass Day Tripper ticket.
The Day Tripper ticket has been available for a number of years now and we first used it way back in 2013 and 2014. However, the ticket has evolved over the years and there are now two different Day Tripper options to choose from.
The DayTripper One
ticket includes a full day lift pass, your return oversnow transport from Perisher and a hot lunch at China King Restaurant,
The DayTripper Two
ticket includes a 2.5 hour guided snowshoe tour, your return oversnow transport and a picnic lunch overlooking the main range.
The tickets are great value as they cost less than what you’d pay for a single-day lift pass at either Perisher or Thredbo. In 2023 adult tickets range from $149 - $159 per person, while children’s tickets range from $99 - $109, depending on the dates you are visiting.
Furthermore, on certain midweek days the Day Tripper ticket is even cheaper. Tuesdays are known as ‘2 Buck Tuesdays’
where the first person pays full price for a Day Tripper pass, and the second person pays only $2. Or on ‘75 Dollar Thursdays’
Day Tripper tickets are only $75. You won’t get a better deal than that on the snow.
Riding the Kosciuszko Triple Chair
Because the resort is quite small there are usually a fewer people on the slopes and barely a lift line in sight. However, I should also point out that there is only one triple chairlift, one T-bar, two pomas and a magic carpet at Charlotte Pass Resort.
The terrain is best suited to young families, beginners or intermediates. The runs are quite short compared with Thredbo and Perisher. When the kids were younger we liked that they couldn’t get lost on the mountain as all of the runs feed back to the one main valley. You should also be aware that tobogganing is not permitted at Charlotte Pass as there is no dedicated tobogganing area.
Charlotte Pass Trail Map
So how exactly do you get to Charlotte Pass? First, you’ll need to prebook your Day Tripper ticket online.
Then you’ll need to get yourself to Perisher. You can do this by car, by catching the skitube
from Bullocks Flat or by bus from Jindabyne
. (Hot tip: the bus from Jindabyne is a much cheaper and more comfortable option than the ridiculously overpriced Skitube).
Once at Perisher head to the Skitube terminal where you’ll find the Charlotte Pass Resort Guest Services desk. This is where you check in to catch the oversnow transport. It’s important to arrive at the Perisher Skitube terminal at least 15 minutes before your departure time. If you miss your oversnow it could be a very long wait until there is availability on another.
Your first time on an oversnow transport is an exciting experience
The oversnow transport takes around 45 minutes to travel from Perisher Skitube terminal to Charlotte Pass Resort.
Once at the resort, you’ll be given instructions on where the toilets and lockers are and where to go for your lunch. Being a small resort it is a lot easier to navigate and a lot less intimidating than Perisher or Thredbo.
After your fun day of skiing, boarding or snow-shoeing you’ll repeat the process in reverse – be ready to go 15 minutes prior to your oversnow departure time, catch the oversnow transport to Perisher terminal, then car, bus or skitube back to Jindabyne.
Charlotte Pass Snow Resort is an excellent alternative destination for those wanting to escape from the crowds of the larger resorts or for those just wanting a change of scenery for a day. The Day Tripper ticket makes it an easy and affordable option.
