Beat the markets with healthy treats & fresh produce
Cold-pressed juices and fresh smoothies. Acai bowls and fruit bowls, fruit-based "nice cream" and indulgent raw slices. Not what you find at most fruit and veg shops.

But Charlie's Fruit Market and Raw Squeeze is different.

Buying the fruit and veg - especially going out of your way to get good stuff from an independent business - can easily be a chore.

But if you get yours from Charlie's at Everton Park (or Stones Corner) you can reward yourself with a nourishing snack and quality coffee.

If you're thirsty, for example, you might have a hard time choosing between the "Lean green cleansing machine" Juice (kale, cucumber, celery, apple, lemon and spinach) and the "Superfood Acai Smoothie" (acai, frozen bananas, cacao, goji berries, dates and almond milk).

For something more substantial you can't go wrong with the "Snickers Bowl" (banana, dates, cacao, peanut butter, coconut water). Or the "Dragon Bowl" (red dragon fruit, banana, strawberries, goji berries, coconut chips and coconut water).

Don't get me started on the raw slices or I might get too hungry to finishing writing this review. (Check out the picture instead.)

And of course these treats are all made using the same fresh produce sold in the store.

High-quality, freshly made food is on the pricey side but there's good value to be had. A huge serving of Nice Cream (made from frozen blended fruit) plus a raw treat is $14. Your body won't know what to do with all the vitamins.

Pallet furniture
Cool furniture in the fresh air (more seating inside)

At the Everton Park store they've done a well-thought-out job of quarantining some space for drinking, eating and relaxing. The furniture makes use of recycled pallets, and uses fresh pineapples and jackfruit as centrepieces. On a hot day it can be warm outside, and inside it's cool though noisier.

For those with little ones in tow there's a small child play area with toys, colouring-in and free fruit! Parents are invited to take a piece to keep the kids busy while Mum lingers over her coffee or Dad stocks up on veggies.

No matter whether you do buy fresh produce while you're there or not, and no matter what you order, there's one sure thing about a visit to Charlie's Raw Squeeze. You'll leave the place better nourished than when you arrived.

I didn't know jackfruit grew that large. I think using them as a centrepiece is a neat idea.

Why are they not using fruits like jac fruit and others when they are in season? They might have to introduce these fruits gradually, but it's worth it
