A satirical look behind the scenes of the teachers' staff room and a listen in to what takes place! In today's world, it's a long way from Pat's 35-year teaching career when more emphasis was placed on the student, not beaurocracy, workplace culture, health and safety, privatisation and parent meddling. Pat is a stalwart at West Vale Primary School, one of the long-standing teachers who doesn't think a teacher should make positive changes or do anything different to how it has always been done. That is until Anna enters the staff room as the new recruit - fresh out of University and full of positivity, big ideas and a can-do attitude. Pat and Anna have very different views on teaching, so the when new recruit meets the long-standing stalwart, sparks will fly - especially when Pat believes she knows it all, has seen it all, and thinks her 35 years of teaching experience means nothing to the principal, who thinks it's time she was let out to pasture. The last thing she needs is a baby-faced teacher joining the ranks with her bright ideas.
Set in the teachers' staffroom, beginning with Day 1, Term 1, each actor is first introduced in this scene and portrays their character superbly - The Principal, Anna, Pat, Denise, Cheryl and Steve, all are back from school holidays, with their own story of how they utilised their time.
Pat is trying to offload a notorious student to one of the other teacher's classrooms, when new recruit Anna enthusiastically offers to take him, believing she is a child whisperer and will have no problem with him. Pat swiftly changes her mind and wants to keep the boy in her classroom, as she can't afford for a fresh-faced, no-classroom experience teacher to take him - and perhaps because she does not want Anna to succeed in the role. But the principal steps in and assigns him to Anna's class.
Pat, believing she actually is 'The World's Best Teacher' is not going to let Anna show her up, so does her best to trip her up. Secrets will be revealed, tempers flair culminating in a tense moment in the staffroom when each person will learn something about themselves and their colleagues. The stand out cast of Catherine McClements as Pat, Stephanie Somervillie as Anna, Ezra Juanta, Michelle Ny, Nathan O'Keefe and Susan Prior will have you laughing througout. The acting, script and storyline, flow throughout, making this a really enjoyable and funny performance. There is no interval but you don't need one because the storyline keeps you interested and entertained, and you don't want the flow to stop. A thoroughly enjoyable show.
