I did the most amazing thing yesterday for the very first time.
It was something I had heard about from friends in the self-healing circles but had never experienced. Chakradance. I wasn't sure what to expect. I thought it would be like a meditation session and I would come away relaxed and wanting a wee nap. What I came away with was astounding. I felt revitalized, pulsing with energy and new strength. I was totally refreshed and grounded within myself.

My understanding of the Chakra is it is a meditation system based on the blended systems of ancient Buddhist and Hindu beliefs. This spiritual system emphasises the major areas of energy around the base of our spin, the stomach, the solar plexus, the heart, the throat and the top of our head. You are guided by the spiritual facilitator through breathing exercises, mantras, and visualizations, with music and voice and slowly you add your own personal physical dance moves.

Our guide this day was Rose, and she said, "This ChakraDance gives you a clearer path to your soul." As you start deep breathing exercises you are guided to meditate on those Chakra areas.

Originally flowers were attributed to each area. Then in the 1880s, Sir John Woodroffe's 1919 released a book The Serpent Power followed by Charles W. Leadbeater's 1927 book The Chakras. These two books introduced the seven rainbow colours for extended visualization of the Chakras. Chakra loosely translates in Greek to "the wheel in time" or the concept of "being at one with the universe".

It was a wonderful discovery for me about how I was feeling and what areas of my soul were "dimmed" by stress.

The groups are kept very small and intimate in a wonderfully peaceful space.

When I first arrived at the immaculate building among an area of industrial buildings, I was not sure what to expect. But parking was ample right at the front door, and as soon as I entered the space felt wonderful.

Rose, who greeted us, was so warm and welcoming that any nervousness I had about attempting this self-discovery was laid to rest.

Rosie explained, "The Chakradance experience reminds me of a beautiful Rumi quote: 'If you are in search of the greatest treasure, don't look outside, look within. Everything that you want, you already are'.When we gift ourselves some time and space to connect and reflect inwards, we discover the 'jewels' within. We are present to see ourselves more clearly and at a deeper level so that we can tap into those feelings/energies available to us, whenever we need. It is like shining a gentle spotlight on our soul to see the beauty within."

Rose also talked about Natalie Southgate who is the creator/founder of Chakradance. Natalie created Chakradance™in 1998, combining her training in dance, Jungian psychology, and chakra healing. Natalie is also a Hay House author of Move your chakras, change your life.

Chakradance is a well-being movement practice that has been recognized by the International Institute for Complementary Therapists as a healing modality. She said there is a special quote from Natalie," Chakradance puts you in touch with the sacred, both within yourself and within the universe. It helps you connect with your soul. Dancing the seven chakras is like dancing into seven different worlds, each with their own lessons, meanings and stories. They are all uniquely yours, to explore and enjoy!"

I was highly intrigued. Rose asked that we all get comfortable in this intimate setting. We could either stand or sit on a cushion or sit on a chair or work on a mat on the floor based on your needs.

Some people chose to just close their eyes, others choose to wear a silken eye mask. It is a space for you to just be and breathe a little. Time to yourself to take at your own pace.

Then the music started, and it was divine. The music was of indigenous origin by Dale Nougher who works directly with
Natalie on the music composition. It's all been specially composed and created for the workshop, to help align your chakra and open your innermost thoughts. I will need to get a CD of this beautiful music to play regularly.

And we slowly released our own inner dance. Together we journeyed to "ground" ourselves to the earth and to open ourselves to the universe and to find our spirit animals.

This is an ancient belief of the American Indians as well. They have spirit animals. Some of us had more than one spirit animal.
I discovered first the black panther was my spirit animal for on earth, then the Owl for the air and wind, and then the dolphin for the seas. Rose explained this gave me protection in all those environments. It was fascinating as I am a Pisces and I have always had a connection to the water and dolphins and have communicated with one dolphin, Tinkerbell.

As the music rolled over us, Rose guided us on a healing journey, and we learned to connect to the earth and pull energy into our chakras from the world around us. I walked away so energized and still days later I am still feeling that energy.

At the end, we drew a picture of our journey. We did not have to share if we did not want but we wanted to. We were all in a magical place within ourselves.

One lady was back for a second journey - she had gone to the Sound Spa and earlier session. She said it drew her to a dark place but then it helped release that pain and damage. Rose pointed out that as humans we have all been damaged or hurt at one time or another in life. True wisdom.

Then we shared tea and food and Tarot cards. My card was exactly how I was feeling.

You must try this for yourselves and feel the magic. I know it is a very ancient modality of healing that has been around for 1000s and 1000s of years, but Natalie and Rose have brought it into our era for us, for now, for advanced healing in this hectic world where we seem to never stop and take a moment to just be.
