City dwellers, workers and tourists may have noticed what would seem like random chairs in various places around town. Located beside these candy striped deck chairs, you will find tables and crates of books. If you have been wondering where, why and what they are for, next time you see some, don't simply walk past. Sit down, relax and chill. That's what they are there for.

Chairs in Squares, brought to you by the City of Sydney, have more than 100 of these colourful deck chairs placed at various spaces around the city. The scheme, which was inspired by a similar initiative in New York, is designed to help the city's workers wind down. You can find your very own chill out spot at the following locations.

  • Sydney Square (Outside Sydney Town Hall)
  • Wynyard Park
  • Paddington Reservoir Gardens
  • Harry Jensen Community Centre, Millers Point
  • Llankelly Place, off Darlinghurst Road, Potts Point

  • These little hubs of relaxation can be found Monday to Friday from 9am - 6pm. They will be available until Friday 1st April 2016 and are FREE to use.
