Cars are a part of most people's lives. But they are so much more than just a tool to get from point A to point B. They can be used to move families and furniture. Or they can be used to have an incredibly fun time, racing, speeding, power sliding and doing burnouts. In a safe environment, of course. And of course, not everyone is interested in anything with a motor. But if you have ever had an interest in classic cars, rally driving or even boat races, then the Celebration of Motorsports at Langley Park and along Riverside Drive is for you.
Join other fans of racing cars for this celebration of all things cars. There will also be a display of classic and vintage cars parked along the banks of the Swan River. What's better is, if you have your own classic car (or car of interest), you can display your own pride and joy!
This event boasts Perth's largest collection of Motorsport vehicles of every type. There are motorcycles, off-roaders and more. Examples of dirt rally cars, Dakar and soapbox carts are also going to be on display. There are also motorcycle workshops for young riders to try out their future rides.
For something on a smaller scale, there are Remote Control cars to try and then buy to play with at home. Although most people believe RC cars are more for children, they are fun for all ages. And they are extremely addictive when you start to race them with your friends.
Although it is technically all about cars and motorsports, it's all exclusive, and the celebration of motorsports will be celebrating trail bikes and motorcycles too. There will also be jet skis and other boats too. There is literally something for everyone.
Street rods are classic or vintage trucks and cars that have been heavily modified. The vehicles have to have been built before 1949 and then later modified. They are often given much bigger engines that don't quite fit into the engine bay. Usually, they have been updated for safety. Most "rods" are made from American classic cars. If you have never seen one before, you will be in for a treat at the celebration. If you have been working on one, then you know where to take it!
If you do love a certain type of car more than others, for example, Ford, there will be car clubs there on the day and you will be able to join them to show your love. Or, you can buy merchandise to wear when you aren't in your car and show just how much of a car fan you really are.
The event is free, as are the display drives that are free to watch. If you want to participate, that is also free! In fact, almost everything is free on the day, unless you choose to buy things from one of the vendors. It is also free to exhibit your vehicles. Get down to Langley Park on Sunday 19th September between 10 am and 3 pm to revel in burning rubber for an afternoon. But make sure to do the speed limit and drive sensibly!
