The Queensland State Library is turning 120 and it's time to join in the party and public celebrations for this significant community resource on 18 June 2022.
The Library lives by the description that Our Story is Your Story as it maintains a sense of collaboration in sharing its past and its present.**
Located in Brisbane's Cultural Precinct, The Queensland State Library is the state's main reference and research library. It was renamed the Public Library of Queensland (from the Brisbane Public Library) and officially opened to the public in 1902.
The library will host a range of fun, free activities as part of its major birthday festivities to celebrate its continued contribution to heritage and culture. Some of the Library's birthday celebration events include:A behind-the-scenes tour including the Conservation Lab
A Tips on caring for children's artwork long after they have left the fridgeA Weaving workshops using banana leaves from Badu islandA Screen printingA Meet the team from the Queensland Writers CentreA Discover the State Library's digital collections of photographs with a specially curated selection of Q150 digital stories featuring ordinary and extraordinary Queenslanders talking about their lives and experiences
Join in a short session covering the foundations needed for house history research, introducing you to the tools and resources you need to unlock your own house's hidden history.
Be sure to join in and say Happy Birthday to this State treasure from 9:45am - 3pm for a unique behind-the-scenes experience.
The State Library of Queensland is located near Southbank on the Corner of Peel and Stanley Streets South Brisbane.
