[ADVERT]A great family event for those on the North Shore is New Year's Eve along Manly Cove. The council and local businesses are putting on a family-friendly entertainment program kicking off with roving entertainment from 6pm. You can bring a picnic (strictly no alcohol) and settle in for the evening, as there will be a fireworks display over Manly Wharf at 9pm. This is one for those who like to be in bed early (or those with kids who won't make it to midnight), as the outdoor entertainment winds up after the fireworks. Of course, for those who wish to party on, many of the venues will be carrying on with the celebrations throughout the night (probably not child friendly though). It's worth planning your journey well in advance or considering getting public transport for some or all of the way, as the city centre will be affected by road closures.
If you live in Sydney's West and are not game to travel into the city with your kids (and let's not mention getting back), celebrating New Year's Eve in Parramatta's CBD is a great option. The party kicks off at 6.00pm along the Parramatta River foreshore, and will feature family friendly entertainment including live music, street performances, rides, food stalls, a jet ski performance and a large-scale fireworks display. One of the musical acts will be The Amazing Drumming Monkeys, which is a children's variety show, so everyone in the family will be catered for. As per the centre of Sydney, there will be some road closures, so public transport is probably the best way to get there. Please do remember though, that this is an alcohol free event.
