It’s here on October 31st.
Some people have decorated their gardens to celebrate the event.
If you are yet to decorate your garden there are many places to find appropriate decorations.
A symbol of Halloween is pumpkins, made into Jack-o-Lanterns. I was brought up in a market garden and my father grew pumpkins and reluctantly allowed the sacrifice of one to allow my sister and I to make a Jack-O-Lantern.
If you don’t have a generous market gardener father head off to your local supermarket who have heaps of orange ones.
I visited Woollies and Big W in the Lilydale Marketplace to photograph their Halloween merchandise.
Also in the Lilydale Marketplace is a pop-up shop selling a huge range of Halloween material.
They have many figures looking like they have just been exhumed and dressed.
Top of the range of items would be a young lady riding a battery-powered horse.
There was a row of such figures looking like they would best be left in your garden and not invited in for a cup of tea.
A blow-up entrance was one you would be reluctant to enter.
On a practical note, Big W, had four black-clad figures holding an orange bag to collect any treats if tricks are refused.
Below are three photos which I photographed during last year’s Halloween.
Trying to escape The pickets stopped him Would you try these treats?
One resident must have spent many hours celebrating Halloween. He explained that his wife was American and felt obliged to participate. I’m sure all the local children would like looking at his garden – in daylight.
On October 31st, if you suffer from nyctophobia (scared of the dark) I suggest you stay at home and leave a supply of treats on your front door mat, with your door locked.
