Life is full of curious, strange and unexplainable events-big or small. For example, where do all those socks disappear to after doing laundry? Where do young children get all their energy? And how does Santa Claus deliver all those presents to every country in the world on only one night and with no help whatsoever from his elves or reindeer?

Some mysteries, however, are much bigger than the above questions and have occupied curious and adventurous minds around the world. These include: Who made Stonehenge and for what purpose? Are ghosts real? What happened to Flight 19 as they flew over the Bermuda Triangle in 1945? Whatever happened to the crew of the ship, the Mary Celeste? And does the Loch Ness Monster exist?


If you enjoy pondering about bizarre events that seem to have no explanations, then Curious Events Day, a made-up holiday celebrated every year on October 9, is just the holiday you need to celebrate!

Curious Events Day
No matter what kind of curious and mysterious events interest you, Curious Events Day is a holiday to spend some time being inquisitive about the world around you.

Spend the day learning about some of the mysteries that continue to fascinate and baffle humans to this day. Such as:

Unidentified Flying Objects or UFOS. On June 24, 1947, American civilian pilot, Kenneth Arnold, reported seeing nine objects flying in formation near Mount Rainier, Washington. At the time, he claimed he described the objects flying in a saucer-like fashion, leading to newspaper accounts of "flying saucers" and "flying discs". Did Kenneth really see UFOs? Do UFOs actually exist?


Ghosts. In folklore, a ghost is the soul or spirit of a dead person or animal that can appear to the living. Ghosts have 'appeared' to humans in every culture and every society around the world since time immemorial. So are they real?


Whatever did happen to Flight 19? Flight 19 was a group of five torpedo bomber planes that disappeared over the Bermuda Triangle on December 5, 1945, after losing contact during a United States Navy training flight from Naval Air Station Fort Lauderdale, Florida. All 14 airmen on the flight were lost, as were all 13 crew members of a Martin PBM Mariner flying boat that had been subsequently launched to search for Flight 19. What happened to these men?


What really happened to the crew aboard the Mary Celeste? The Mary Celeste was an American merchant ship that was discovered adrift and deserted in the Atlantic Ocean off the Azores Islands on December 4, 1872. The last entry in her log was dated ten days earlier. But where was the crew?


Did Big Foot, the Abominable Snowman, and the Loch Ness Monster really exist? These are just some of the most famous 'monsters' in history, with numerous recorded sightings of them over the years. But are they real?

Who killed John F Kennedy?
This is probably the biggest mystery in American history that will never be resolved to everyone's satisfaction. On Nov. 22, 1963, President John F. Kennedy was shot in Dallas by Lee Harvey Oswald (although some speculate that he wasn't the only one shooting). On Nov. 24, 1963, before Oswald could stand trial, Oswald was fatally shot by nightclub owner Jack Ruby. Who really killed JFK? Was there really a conspiracy to have him assassinated?

Who was Jack the Ripper? In 1888, Jack the Ripper killed at least five women in London, mutilating their bodies. The Ripper was never found, and over the years, dozens of people have been brought up as possible candidates. But who was he really? The mystery continues to this day.

Was there a City of Atlantis?
Writing in the fourth century B.C., the Greek philosopher Plato told a story of a land named Atlantis that existed in the Atlantic Ocean and supposedly conquered much of Europe and Africa in prehistoric times. But did it really exist?

Were the Hanging Gardens of Babylon real?
Ancient writers describe a fantastic series of gardens constructed at the ancient city of Babylon in modern-day Iraq. It's not clear when these gardens were built, but some ancient writers were so impressed by the gardens that they called them a "wonder of the world." But like Atlantis, did the Gardens actually exist?

And who built Stonehenge? And what is its purpose?
Stonehenge is a prehistoric monument in Wiltshire, England. This ring of standing stones is one of the most famous landmarks in the United Kingdom and is regarded as a British cultural icon. But who were its builders? And why did they build it in the first place?
