To signify entering into the Christmas season, it's worth taking the family into Fed Square this Friday, the 24th of November, for the annual first lighting of the 17.5m Christmas Tree. That's right a month before Christmas Eve.

Enjoy free Christmas cookies, performances, and festive face painting before the countdown to the main event – the lighting of the giant 17.5m Christmas Tree.

The lighting also signifies the official opening of the City of Melbourne's Christmas Festival for 2023, which runs till Christmas Day.

But if you do miss the first lighting, the LED Christmas tree will light up each evening as a beacon of Christmas joy. Plan your visit to coincide with the on-the-hour sound and light show to enjoy the magical celebration of Christmas song and spirit.

A program of community and cultural choirs will also bring joy to onlookers this festive season. They will offer a diverse program featuring a range of traditional and contemporary Christmas and festive songs sung in English and other languages.

Christmas Square and the Christmas Projections are lighting up with 100% wind-powered Christmas cheer.
