Celebrate flat packs and Allen keys with gifts for you
Australia's love affair with flat pack furniture, Swedish design and allen keys is 40 years old. Yes, that's right folks, IKEA is celebrating its 40th year in Australia, and their Melbourne stores haven't been left out of all the fun, deals, prizes and entertainment that are on offer from 29 June to 5 July.


Springvale Store

For the Kids

IKEA loves kids and they're well catered for at the anniversary celebrations with everything from a magician and craft activities to a treasure hunt and movies. Here's what's on:

Marco the Magician
Marco the Magician, complete with a magic black cape and top hat,will perform his magic show at the store's restaurant.

Sessions: Monday 29 June, from 11am to 1.30pm, Wednesday 1 July, from 11am to 1.30pm and Friday 3 July, from 11am to 1.30pm.

Treasure Hunt
Kids can collect a puzzle from special greeters at the front entrance. They can then follow the path through the store to find the answer and drop in their answers at the Swedish Food Market (located after the checkouts) to redeem a prize.

Crafting Sessions

Kids can get creative with a range of special crafting activities from 29 June - 5 July from 10am to 5:30pm each day

Movies
Favourite films for the juniors will run throughout the celebratory week (29 June to 5 July) with sessions daily at 1.30pm and 7pm. Check with the store for details


For the Adults

It's the age old battle. Who can wield that Allen key the best and put together a flat pack piece in lightning fast time?

Furniture building competition

At Springvale you can take part in a unique building competition, taking on IKEA co-workers at their own game. And girls, let's face it, this will be a battle of the sexes, the ultimate test to prove that reading the instructions really does help. If you can beat the experts you can take home the product, as well as a $50 IKEA gift voucher. Sign up in-store and challengers will be selected at random. Sessions each day from 29 June to 5 July at 4 pm.

For everyone

Celebrate Midsummer
It may be midwinter in Australia but what's a season or two between friends?Midsummer in Sweden is celebrated with a traditional smörgåsbord feast, and Swedish meatballs, of course. IKEA's version of all this Nordic fun is happening over 2 big nights -Saturday 4 July and Sunday 5 July commencing at 5.30pm.

Prices: Adult (over 12 years old) $24.99 or IKEA FAMILY members $19.99. Children 5-12 years $14.99 and children under 5 eat free.


Social media competition
These days it's impossible to have any kind of celebration without the selfie. In IKEA's competition you could win a $500 IKEA gift voucher. Snap yourself at IKEA Springvale with your favourite store display and then enter between 29 June and 5 July, either by posting it to the IKEA Australia Facebook page and tagging #IKEASpringvale OR uploading it to Instagram and tagging @IKEA_australia and #IKEASpringvale. The 2 most creative entries will win. Easy as.

Information sessions
Want to know how to live more sustainably and haven't got much time? Come along to IKEA's 15 minute information sessions in the bedroom department each day from 29 June to 5 July at 11.30 and 3pm.

Discounts
IKEA will be offering big discounts on a range of 'planet-friendly' products, popular chests of drawers and more. See the website or in-store for details.

For IKEA Family members only

Free breakfast
The first 200 IKEA Family members through the door each day from 29 June to 5 July will receive a free breakfast. You will need to show your IKEA Family card to claim your voucher from a greeter at the door and you must use your voucher on the day of issue.

Renovator's Workshops
If you're planning a renovation but aren't quite sure where to start you'll get tips from the experts about how to plan and execute your dream space and see some of their home-grown solutions. Places are limited so book early. Sessions are on from 29 June to 5 July from 6pm to 7.30pm.


Richmond Store

Full details are not yet available online for the Richmond store. Check their website closer to the date for dates, times and more information. Confirmed events include a petting zoo for the kids, IKEA Richmond Midsummer Smörgåsbord on Wednesday 1st July from 5pm to 8pm and the IKEA Family Free Breakfast each day of the celebrations.
