I decided to go over to my boyfriend's house in Brisbane the other day. I'm not from Brisbane so, naturally, we have a battle going on as to who's hometown is more awesome. I do secretly love Brisbane though. This is just one reason why.
We're hanging out at my boyfriend's place, trying to cool off in the summer heat, when our friends come over. These are the most random people I know! But if there is one place you can easily be random, it's Brisbane. They talked us into putting on our swimming togs under our clothes and joining them on a trip across town.
I have no idea of where we're off to, not being a native in Brisbane and all, but once we hit the tree line of the forests that adorn the surroundings of Cedar Creek, I'm getting more excited. We get a spot to park the car next to a trail. It's in the middle of the day and the place isn't too crowded.
The trail down to the water is beautiful. My boyfriend is trudging along with the only backpack in the group, which holds our water bottles. It's pretty light though. We walk down a marked trail, meeting small groups of families and friends along the way.
We suddenly hit the banks of one of the most beautiful lagoons I've seen. A few people are already swimming in the soothingly cool looking pool. We don't stop at the pool though. We take of our shoes and put them in the bag, then keep walking up the rocks, against the creek's flow. Flowing water, beautiful rock path and a barefoot walk with loved ones - I can't help but think of how awesome this place is. And we haven't even spent a dime.
We swim in some of the small pools we find on the way up, but decide to start climbing down as the time slips away and the rain begins to fall. However, this place has already made its mark on me and I'm definitely going back. When we got to the larger pool at the bottom of the creek, I even got to "cliff" jump into the large lagoon and it's by far the best way to end the day.
Having spent nothing but time with loved ones, we drove back home, glad for this random act of adventure.
