For holidaymakers looking to take a break from the beautiful white sand and reefs of the Whitsunday Islands, consider a day trip to Cedar Creek Falls. Hidden within the Conway National Park, the falls are a favourite destination for tourists and locals for its natural beauty, particularly after the wet season.
Cedar Creek falls can be located by turning off Shute Harbour Rd at Mount Julian (between Airlie Beach and Proserpine) onto Conway Road and following the signs until reaching the small carpark. The last section of the road is gravel but is accessible to all types of vehicles.
The falls are a short easy walk from the parking area and there are also bush walks up and around the falls for the more energetic. To access these tracks, simply cross the shallow creek and begin the scramble up the slope on the other side.
During the warmer weather, the waterhole at the bottom of the falls makes for the perfect location for a swim to cool off from the humidity and with birds, fish and the occasional turtle making an appearance, there are plenty of opportunities for wildlife spotting.
Further information regarding access to the falls can be gained from the National Parks website.
National Parks recommend for the public's own safety, jumping and diving from the waterfall is strictly prohibited.
