Start with a flavour base of history, culture and community, pour sponsors, local businesses and charity partners into the mix, then add fine food, wine and music. The result? Caxton Street Seafood and Wine Festival , a really tasty example of a successful, community foodie festival. The 2012 version will be dished up on Sunday May 6.

[ADVERT]Caxton Street, in Brisbane's historic Petrie Terrace, is a stone's throw from Suncorp Stadium in one direction and Roma Street Parklands in the other. It marries a vibrant dining and nightlife precinct with the history and heritage that only one of Brisbane's earliest settled areas could claim. Caxton Street Seafood and Wine Festival is billed as "Queensland's biggest street party". You can celebrate with prawns in one hand and a chilled pinot gris in the other while you mark the festival's eighteenth birthday, along with 15,000 new-found friends.

Festival Details

Date: Sunday 6 May 2012.
Time: Box Office opens at 10 am. Patrons will be admitted from 11am. Closing time is 10pm, but children under 18 years must leave the precinct by 5pm.
Tickets: All tickets are $23.00 (plus a $3.90 booking fee). They can be pre-purchased through Moshtix here or buy on the day from one of 4 box offices onsite.

Food
I love seafood. If it comes out of the ocean I'll probably enjoy it (old boots and oysters aside). You will be so spoilt for choice at this years festival you'll think you've died and gone to seafood heaven.Over twenty notable Caxton Street eateries will be serving up a scrumptious signature dish. Be tempted by Caxton Hotel's Seafood Platter, Gambaro's Crisp Skin Tasmanian Salmon Fillet, Garlic Prawn Skewers from Mirasoul, Calypso's Seafood Pizza, and many more fishy favourites.

Wine
The festival's 2012 wine partner is the popular, local, award-winning Sirromet Winery. Featured will be their Love range wines - Love My Sweet Fruity White and Love My Lite Red. Other tipples include their shiraz, pinot gris or sparkling chardonnay pinot noir for all you bubble lovers.

Music
It may be called the Seafood and Wine Festival, but this is also a music festival of some renown, attracting many popular Australian artists across a broad range of genres. Australian rock royalty like Cold Chisel's Don Walker, 1927, Boom Crash Opera and Grace Knight are in this year's lineup, along with Calling All Cars, Mason Rack, the Cairos, many new and emerging talents, and a number of top line DJ's.

Charity
Part proceeds from all pre-sold tickets will go this year to Wesley Hospital Kim Walters Choices program . Women diagnosed with breast or gynaecological cancers, along with their families, can access the support and information services this charity provides. So consider buying your tickets ahead of time. Not only will you not have to wait in a queue, you'll be assisting a worthwhile charity.

The Fine Print
Okay, now it's time for the party-pooper detail. You can find all of the relevant information here , but I've listed some of the important rules and details you should know to plan your attendance:

1) This is an outdoor event. The festival will go ahead rain or shine, unless conditions become too dangerous
2) This is a non-smoking event
3) You will need photo ID. Under 18s must be with a responsible adult and children under 12 will be admitted free when accompanied by a responsible adult

The last rule is enjoy yourself. It's hard to see how you could miss.
