Eat like a Truckie: pub quality food in a novelty van
The Cavan Steak Van is one of the fast food delights on lower Port Wakefield Road. It is owned by the Cavan Hotel, but hotel staff told us the novelty steak van actually outsold the hotel restaurants so that they closed the kitchens!
Their special deals include a steak sandwich with the lot for $14.50 with a can of soft drink and chips on the side.
The range is excellent for a fast food joint. In addition to steak sandwiches, they offer pie floaters, fish, dim sims, yiro wraps, chips and gravy and more.
Dining alfresco is cool sometimes, but on an August evening, it might be just too cool for me! Because the steak van is owned by the hotel, hotel staff allowed us to carry our food inside and eat in comfort on a table. The only difference between this and a restaurant meal was the plastic forks and aluminium containers. It is also the only time I have carried a drink INTO a hotel.
