Cavalier Capers is a popular fun day run by the Cavalier King Charles Spaniel Club of SA Inc. The next Cavalier Capers will be held on Sunday 13th October at the Beefacres Reserve, Pittwater Crescent, Windsor Gardens.

All Cavaliers and their families and friends are encouraged to come along and enjoy a happy day out together, participating in the fun events and games or just relaxing and enjoying the games as spectators from shady spots under the large gum trees. Bring along a picnic rug or some folding chairs so you can relax comfortably.

Activities start at 10.30 am and continue until approximately 3.00 pm. Entry to the event is free and people (with or without a Cavalier) are welcome to come and go whenever they please. Barbecued food, delicious dessert, cool drinks, tea and coffee will be all be available at a reasonable cost.

Lots of delicious cakes, slices and other edible and interesting goodies will be available for purchase from the bring and buy Trading Table, but be warned, the best items are snapped up very quickly so it is a good idea to have a look over the trading table early in the day. Dog brushes, combs and other canine care items will also be available for sale, as will 2020 Cavalier calendars.

Events and games are run during the day with ribbons and prize bags of goodies awarded to all first, second and third place-getters. The Junior and Senior Fancy Dress classes are very popular, with some owners dressing themselves and their Cavaliers in matching or complementary costumes.

Events for the Best Groomed Cavalier and the Cavalier in Best Weight and Condition are always well contested and other events will include Cavalier Most Like Its Owner, Waggiest Tail, Best Matched Pair of Cavaliers, Best Six Legs (one Cavalier and one human!), Egg and Spoon Race and Sausage Race. Spin The Cavalier is a game of chance (like Spin The Bottle) and the smaller children can have fun with Pass The Parcel.

Experienced Cavalier breeders will be on hand during the day to answer any questions about Cavaliers and their care and grooming and to offer advice on any problems owners may have come across with their own Cavaliers. And if you don't like cutting your Cavalier's nails yourself, or expressing its anal glands, these chores can be taken care of during the day for a small fee.

Prizes for the raffle which will be run on the day are a large basket of goodies and several Cavalier statues. The winner of the raffle can choose the prize they prefer, the runner-up will choose from the remaining two prizes and the third-place ticket will receive the prize which is left.

A parking area on the south side of the Beefacres Reserve provides ample space for cars and the venue and toilets are wheelchair accessible.

If the day is unseasonably hot the club's hot weather policy will come into play and Cavalier Capers will be cancelled if, on Friday 11th October, the forecast temperature for Sunday 13th October is 37 degrees or above. Likewise, if the forecast for Sunday 13th October is for particularly wet or dangerously windy weather a decision about cancelling Cavalier Capers will be made before 6pm on Saturday 12th October. In either case, if the event is cancelled a notice will be placed on the Club's web site and on the Club's Facebook Page .
