Cat Rabbit, is a Melbourne-based textile artist and has brought her new project,
The soft library, to Bayside Gallery in Brighton. The project is a library run by bears known as 'librarians. See many literary characters and authors brought to life as bears.
The characters are made in felt and fabric by Cat Rabbit.
the soft library has shelves of books, portraits, animations and a special giant 'storytime' bear who invites visitors to sit and enjoy an audio story.
The soft library will be a favourite of people of all ages; those who practise embroidery and admire textile craft and those captivated by the bears and everyone in between.
Cat Rabbit's many projects include working with the National Gallery of Victoria,
Lunch Lady magazine and
Frankie magazine. She has held 19 solo and collaborative exhibitions since 2007. Recent group exhibitions include 'Fantastic Worlds,' Counihan Gallery, Melbourne, 'Reimagine: the world according to children's books', Geelong Gallery, and 'Slice of life', Craft Victoria, Melbourne.
Cat Rabbit: The soft library is on from 5th November 2021 to 16 January 2022 at Bayside Gallery. This is a perfect exhibition for the family and it would make a good school holiday activity. Bayside Gallery is at Brighton Town Hall, corner Carpenter & Wilson Streets, Brighton, Victoria. Opening hours Wednesday to Friday between 11 am and 5 pm, weekends 1pm to 5pm.
