If you are a New York City resident who happens to be a cat owner, you know that there are times when you need to utilize cat boarding services. A quick search will reveal several places that offer these services, but you may not know which ones to choose from.

Here are a few tips for choosing a cat boarding service in New York City; then we'll talk about a few of the places that can board your cat. All of this information will help you make a good decision about where to board your kitty when the need arises.

Tip #1 : Make on-site visits.

Don't rely on phone or written communications alone. Visit the cat boarding facilities you are considering, and look for the following:

  • Cleanliness, both inside and outside the kennel or cage

  • Friendly staff

  • The demeanor of the cats already being boarded there. Do they look content and well cared for?

  • Tip #2 : Don't be afraid to ask questions, both during the on-site visit and when communicating in other ways.

The cat boarding service will probably provide a brochure or handout detailing what immunizations and vet care proof your cat will need, as well as what you will need to or can bring. Read over these, and if there are any questions, don't be afraid to ask them.

Tip #3 : Ask to see current health department and other municipal, county, or state inspection results. If the staff is reluctant to show these to you, consider (strongly!) choosing another service.http://www.petplace.com/cats/kenneling-your-cat/page1.aspx

Here are some New York City places that offer cat boarding services.

    Katie's Kitty (four locations)

This cat sitting and boarding service has four locations—one in Manhattan, one in Brooklyn, one in Queens, and one in The Bronx, so you should be able to find one that is convenient to your home. Katie's Kitty offers pet sitting in your home or in a "host family" home as well as boarding at each of these locations.

    Peter's Pets (three locations)

Cat lovers in Manhattan, Brooklyn, and Queens can consider Peter's Pets for their cat boarding needs. This service offers cat boarding either in a host family home or in your own home, whichever you prefer and think is best for your cat.

Puppy Paradise Pet Spa and Resort

Brooklyn dwellers can board their cats or kittens in spacious kennels that provide not only a comfortable resting place but also a lot of room for climbing, jumping, and playing on the "jungle gym". Your cat or kitten will have a good time while you're having a good time.
