If you're looking for an escape from the hustle and bustle and bright lights of Surfers Paradise and Broadbeach, then you only have to go just a few blocks to .

It is a beautiful tranquil picnic and BBQ spot which has plenty of open green spaces, rainforest walks, trees and flowers, aboriginal culture, a sanctuary for water birds, war memorials, a lake, plus a number of BBQ spots and seating areas and a huge playground for the kids.

It's amazing to think that just a few blocks away things can be so different - that's what I love about the Gold Coast - there are so many places to visit to suit every taste and desire.

If you want some calm after the theme parks, beaches and lively attractions that the Gold Coast has to offer, then is a welcome retreat and you don't even have to travel far to reach it.

It is located just next to the Gold Coast Convention and Exhibition Centre, directly in the middle of Surfers Paradise and Broadbeach on the Gold Coast Highway. They have plenty of parking, and many bus routes will stop just outside if they go down the highway.

The playground is just wonderful and kids will love it, it's pretty big and usually fairly quiet. We went on a Saturday afternoon and there were only a few families and people about. They have the usual climbing, swinging, seesawing and sliding fun for the kids, plus they have a liberty swing, so children in a wheelchair can enjoy the playground too. The best though was the roundabout with three little horses - you push it once and it doesn't stop, so the kids won't be bothering you to keep pushing them.

My niece loved it, so we shall certainly be going back. I liked that it was quiet with just a few kids, sometimes the main playgrounds gets too overcrowded and busy and she doesn't enjoy it.

There are so many BBQ areas and seating available - all pretty spread out so you won't feel on top of people. Sometimes I find that in communal areas in these parks they only have one or two BBQ areas, and it can sometimes get over crowded or you have to wait your turn. But not here, there are plenty for all to enjoy.

It's a huge park with green spaces, walk ways and areas to set down your picnic, plus there a some lovely wild flowers and trees for climbing. Also because of all the tall trees, there are loads of shaded areas, so you can get a little break from the sun and it is safe for the kids to play.

Running alongside the Nerang River, it really is a lovely park and gardens that is great to visit for friends to play games, for a romantic picnic or for a family get together. You can take a walk, sit and relax, read a book, have a BBQ or let the kids free on their scooters and bikes.

It also has a lovely rotunda, which is quite a popular wedding and ceremony venue and it is also home to the moving Queensland Korean War Memorial and the Kokoda Memorial Walk.

A "must see" if you are visiting or living on the Gold Coast. It is well looked after, kept clean and is a safe natural environment for children. Plus it is completely free.
