Janet Neefe's cooking school out of Casa Luna begins early at 8.30am in the markets of Ubud.

Amazing in itself, as eel (poor man's bacon), fruit, pastes and amazing sights abound. The chef actually takes you along while he does his morning scout for produce.

The lessons are demonstration style with some participation and are held at Honeymoon cottages.These are very charming cottages and gardens and give a real sense of Balinese style.

I learnt to make Hibiscus tea, which I still serve on hot summer days, and really enjoyed the morning. It's cheaper than hotel cooking classes and worth the trip to Ubud, as Ubud is full of arty shops to explore afterwards.Costs around $40 AUS
