Among the trampolines and seven apples is the long standing Casa Del Gelato on popular Lygon street in Carlton. The shop is the first of its kind having been open since 1980 and boasts daily made products with fresh fruits, soy milk and decadent chocolate, cookie and caramel varieties.
The 170 flavours are created by award winning Gelato maker Ottorino Place using traditional methods. Some of the more unique flavours found at Casa Del Gelato include Jasmine, Caramelised Fig, Cinnamon, Green tea, Nutella. and Chilli chocolate.
The servings are very generous with around $5, allowing you the choice of three flavours. On the occasion I visited the shop my friends and I chose raspberry, caramel, lemon and chocolate. Everyone was extremely happy with their choices with tart fruit flavours, rich caramels and chocolates and a creamy texture for each. The staff were extremely helpful and the atmosphere bright and airy. The choice of flavours was incredible and I was extremely impressed to see the Soy/dairy free varieties and the health conscious fruit choices.
The Gelato can be served in either a cup or traditional waffle cones and really is one of the best gelato I've had for some time.
