Nearly everyone who has done the backpack through Europe thing has come home to wax lyrical about downing pints of cider in London bars. Once upon a time, one was hard pressed to find cider in Brisbane; but now, we have bar brisbane&fb=1&gl=au&hq=cartel bar&hnear=Brisbane QLD&cid=13240952278319766819 .

With 27 different types of beer and cider on tap, it is little wonder that Cartel has become a hit with the twenty-something crowd. The small cafe and bar is located in Paddington (2 Caxton Street) and offers a laid back atmosphere, home-style food and a wide selection of ales.

Perfect for wind down drinks after work or a Sunday afternoon session, Cartel is an intimate space that favours the design scheme commonly used by those out of home for the first time; vintage couches, mismatched bar stools and even milk crates for customers to sit on, and the walls covered with local street art. Of course, unlike your first flat, the look here is entirely deliberate.

Cartel is open from Tuesday to Sunday; opening hours are 12.00pm until 12.30am, except for Friday and Saturday, when they stay open until 2.00am.

This is an intimate bar that makes a huge effort to resemble your own lounge room. Once you've gotten over the irony of leaving your house to drink somewhere that feels like home, you can enjoy laid back afternoons and nights with a beer or cider – just don't forget to change out of your tracksuit and Ugh boots.
