Cars = My Automolove Exhibition at Caboolture Art Gallery

Cars are an important commodity in most people's lives, in fact I couldn't image a life without my vehicle or even a licence. At the time of the 2014 Motor Vehicle Census (MVC) there were 17.6 million motor vehicles including motor cycles, registered in Australia. This is 2.6% higher than in 2013 and an increase of 12.5% since 2009. So, motor vehicles are important in the eyes of many.

Currently running until 31st January 2015, the Caboolture Regional Art Gallery is host to an exhibition "Cars – My Automolove". The Gallery is open from Monday to Saturday 9am to 4pm and ushers are on hand to explain the exhibition to you.

The exhibition examines the nature of automotive love from all aspects and explores the physical, psychological and cultural role automobiles have played in Australia and their iconic place within our lives. Throughout time, lives have been created in the back seat of cars, lives have been taken tragically as a driver behind the wheel of cars, others have experienced the thrill from racing cars or just simply enjoy the privilege of owning a car.

A short video runs continually presenting enthusiasm and dedication of a group of people both young and old from the " Old Skool Car Club " who regularly show their vehicles at car shows in Queensland. I was impressed by the knowledge of one young lady in the video who was very conversant with every item of machinery under the bonnet of her car and I also realised that this is not just an male arena anymore. One fellow in the video stated that he had owned his GT for 30 years and spent over $100,000 in six years to refurbish it completely. Wow that is a lot of money but the car looked superb.

There is nothing nicer that driving along the highway and seeing a car club out for a Sunday drive, sometimes with the occupants dressed in period costume of the time.

Entry to the exhibition is free; however no flash camera is allowed inside.
