The Salvos Thrift Shop is located at the Salvos Church in Carrum Downs on Franksron-Dandenong Road. It is open most days during the week for limited hours depending on volunteer participation.
My mother and I have been visiting and donating to this thrift shop for many years. We think they are one of the cheapest thrift stores around and their quality of items are great. They sell a mixture of new and secondhand but everything is in good condition.
The shop often has great deals going such as "fill a bag of clothes for $5" and "5 books for $1". I have made use of these deals before and it really saves so much money, especially if you need to update your wardrobe or want new books for your kids.
The volunteers who run the op shop are so friendly! They are never too busy for a chat and are so grateful for donations. I love that there is a cafe attached to the op shop where coffees and cakes are sold super cheap. We often grab a coffee here before we go.
The money raised at the op shop holds fund the community pantry where the volunteers buy basic groceries and bread for low income families to take for free. It really is a good cause and it feels good to shop there when you know the money is going somewhere important.
A couple of times per year, the op shop hosts a big market on a Saturday with stallholders from the public setting up stalls and selling their own stuff. The stallholders get to keep the money they earn, however, the stall space fee goes towards the church.
We have attended every market day they have had and it's always so much fun. They usually have children activities like jumping castles and face painting, plus a delicious sausage sizzle. People sell their items really cheap and last year, when we went and I brought a bag of Beanie Kids at $2 each!
