We found this coffee shop on a bike ride we took to Midland last weekend. Carpe Coffee Midland celebrated its first birthday in May this year. The café opened in May 2015 and has a sister shop in Perth's CBD. It's located on 3/1 Old Great Northern Hwy in Midland just a short distance from the train station and Midland Gate shopping centre. It is open from 6.30am to 5.30pm Monday to Friday and 6.30am to 2.30pm on Saturday and Sunday.
It is kid friendly, has outdoor seating, and does take away coffees and serves your usual café nibbles and sweets. The first thing that drew my attention to this place was the symbol on the window. I thought it was a cup of coffee but when I got closer I realized it was a carp that was positioned in a way that made it look like a cup of coffee. The position of its tail looked just like steam rising from a coffee cup. I thought it was clever.
What really makes this place stand out is its fun and quirky atmosphere. When we stopped there for coffee last weekend I immediately noticed that there was a lot of laughter coming from inside and there was a man sitting in front of the window playing Jenga. You can play board games here. I spotted Scrabble, Upwords, Monolopy and Yaztee. How cool is that? The next time I'm stuck in my house on a rainy day with nothing to do I might drag the family down to Carpe Coffee for some coffee and board games.
But that's not all. You can also play video games. The café has a Game Cube and a Playstation that people are free to play. A couple was playing Mario Kart while we were there and were having the best time. How much fun does that sound? Carpe Café also sells board games like Cards Against Humanity which I thought was pretty awesome.
Carpe Coffee is a nice little addition to Midland's shopping district. It reminded me of some of the fun and whacky coffee places that I've visited in Melbourne. If you're looking for somewhere interesting to go to grab a bite to eat and spend some time with friends then give this place a go. You might find me in there trying to beat my husband at Mario Kart.
