Carolyn Menzies was born in New Zealand and studied sculpture at the University of Canterbury School of Fine Arts. A travel grant enabled her to travel to the United Kingdom to complete her Master of Arts (MA) in Fine Arts at Central St Martin's College of Art and Design in London.

Currently, Carolyn is an artist in residence at Linden New Art. Her current exhibition presents a series of sculptural works and charcoal drawings, which explore materiality and the intersection of act and craft. Her sculptures are made from steel wool and steel mesh. Although steel is a hallmark of practice in modern sculpture, Carolyn uses it as a domestic medium to explore the complexity of often invisible labour that takes place in a domestic environment. The materials she uses are usually found under a normal kitchen sink to utilise and tribute to a non-recorded human behaviour.

Your Comment
Art is such a diverse thing and not being an artistic person I can't imagine how Carolyn comes up with the ideas for her pieces; they are certainly different.
