If you're looking for something more than your traditional carols event this December, head to the Blue Mountains, where the annual Carols in the Caves will offer you an experience you won't soon forget. Instead of relaxing on the grass listening to artists sing on stage, here you'll be mesmerised as they
perform your favourite carols on rocky ledges among stalagmites and stalactites.
The event
takes place in the in the Grand Arch at
Jenolan Caves and will be held on Saturday December 14.
Two concerts will run, the first being a matinee from 1.45pm to 3.30pm. Later in the evening, a slightly longer concert will run from 7.30pm to 10.00pm.
Both concerts will be hosted by a
celebrity compere and feature
appearances from Santa Claus and Bandaged Bear (money raised by the event goes towards
The Tumor Bank at the
Children's Hospital at Westmead and contributes to research into childhood cancer). There will also be
raffles and market stalls running for the duration of the day.
Tickets to the matinee are a little cheaper than the later concert and cost $38.50 for adults, $28.50 for children and pensioners, and $35.00 for Senior's Card holders. Families can get a discounted ticket that costs $120.00 (which is for two adults and up to three children).
Tickets to the evening concert cost $48.50 for adults, $38.50 for children and pensioners, $44.00 for Senior's Card holders and $145.00 for families. All tickets also include a souvenir booklet.
[ADVERT]Carols in the Caves is a truly unique event and has won the 'Festivals & Events' category in the Blue Mountains Tourism Awards of Excellence for three years in a row. It's worth the extra drive out to it, but make sure you give yourself plenty of time to get there, as the road through the Grand Arch will be closed between 1.30pm and 3.45pm and 7.30pm to 10.15pm.
It's also advised that you dress warmly for the event and you should bring a folding chair and some
refreshments with you (though you can purchase refreshments at the Caves House). Alternatively, you can book your place at the
special Festive Christmas Buffet prior to your chosen concert (prices and menus are located
here).
