is a special event that will be held at Dunstone Grove, in Stepney, on Sunday the 18 of December, commencing at 7:30 pm. The carols programme will be hosted by Spicer Uniting Church.
The evening begins with a free sausage sizzle and children are invited to come in costume as an angel or shepherd so they can get up and join in the enactment of the nativity story. There will be a special segment where you can find hear the story of a curious polar bear cub who wanted to find out how Christmas originated.
Singing will be led by the popular musical group the
Jones Commentary. The
Jones Commentary is a leading South Australian choir whose music ranges from traditional to Jazz and contemporary pop. One of their "projects"
Gospo focuses solely on Christian music. (Samples of their music can be heard by viewing video clips on the
Facebook page .)
The director is Charmaine Jones and the style is lively, including movement and gesture. Many musical pieces represent a combination of praise music written especially for the churches and secular music re-purposed to tell the gospel story. If you like Christian Rock or Christian Jazz, this is the group for you.
If your taste is more classical the group have also sung an acapella version of
Joy to the World at the Credit Union Christmas pageant, and also perform a beautiful medley with pieces taken from
Praise my Soul the King of Heaven,
Alleluia (by Randall Thompson) and
Sabbath Prayer (by Jerry Bock and Sheldon Harnick).
