Free festive fun and fireworks
When I say that Carols at Docklands is a big event, I mean big, really big. Expect big crowds, mega-popular performers, awesome carnival activities for the kids and a humongous fireworks display to finish it off with a full-on festive bang. And if there's something that Dockland does really well, it's fireworks. They get plenty of practice.
The Piazza at Docklands is the venue for this explosion of free, yes free, Christmas cheer for the whole family on 23 December. It all kicks off at 5.30pm with the special kids' carnival complete with rides, a jumping castle and, of course, face painting.
At 8.30pm the focus switches to Christmas carols entertainment that this year will be provided by some big names. The man with the Shane Warne earrings and the burgeoning singing and acting career, Stan Walker, is headlining along with Evermore, hot on the heels of the recent release of their latest album, Follow the Sun. They'll be supported by hip-hop group No-Limits, and there will be plenty of opportunities for sing-along fun.
Of course it wouldn't be Christmas without a special guest appearance from the man in red and white himself, so the kids will get their required Santa hit, which should keep the whole family happy. At the conclusion of the singing and Santa fest you can settle in for the ooohs and aaahs of the fireworks.
