The first foundation stone for St John's Church in Halifax Street, Adelaide was laid on 19th October 1839 by Lieutenant Colonel George Gawler, who was the Governor of the Province. The land on which the Church stands was donated by one of South Australia's early founders, a flamboyant entrepreneur, Osmond Gillies. The Church was opened in October 1841 by Rev'd C.B. Howard and assisted by Rev'd Jas. Farrell, the First Rector.
On Friday 21st December 2018, St John's Church together with the Kapelle Singers present Carols Around the World. Along with the Kapelle Singers, Emma Horwood will be Director and on Harp, Steve Peterka on Percussion and Sebastian Phlox on the organ. The carols sung will be from around the World – Spain, America, Nigeria, Austria, England, Mexico, Estonia, France, Germany and of course Australia, so there will be a good mix of tunes to satisfy all present.
Drinks and supper in the hall will follow the concert. Tickets are available online and if not all sold out prior, some tickets may still be available at the door for cash sale only. The concert commences at 8.00pm through to 10.00pm. Tickets are $30 for Adults, $25 for Concession, Students $20 and Children under 14 years are free.
