My first impression of Carole Avenue was a street bottlebrush tree festooned with bright red flowers, attracting a myriad of bees.

Carole Avenue runs from Kimberley Drive, opposite the Chirnside Shopping Centre to Joanne Avenue. Find it on Melway map 37. F.4.

There were many bottlebrush trees at the Kimberley Drive end.

Two other Australian natives that were at their peak were Banksia and Grevilleas.

A colourful flowering tree was the yellow bloomed golden rain tree, a native of China. The first one I had seen.

A Portuguese laurel is another first sighting with a myriad of small white flowers on hanging branches

Several melaleuca trees were in flower.

The multiflora rose is a climbing variety, a native of eastern Asia.

Five species of birds were captured photographically in Carole Crescent. The most numerous was the noisy miner who was always willing to pose when not feeding in trees.

Only one magpie and one mudlark were seen.

Usually heard before being seen are rainbow lorikeets. The one I heard and saw was deep within a bottle brush tree.

A raven was captured flying overhead, while another appeared to be tangled in powerlines, before opting for a safer perch.

A crab apple tree was full of blossoms, they are a relative of orchard apple trees.

The lilac hibiscus is an attractive flower endemic to south-western, Western Australia.

A couple of wooden fences fronted a couple of properties, looking more attractive than the common brick ones of yesteryear.

Two of walkers seen were pushing strollers with a little one enjoying the ride.

A mass of white chrysanthemums looked attractive, despite their lack of colour.

Four individual flowers seen were a bush of asters, geranium, jasmine and a polygala bush.

Another foursome was a marguerite bush, pelargonium, rose and some society garlic.

Many daisies were appearing as were several convolvulus groundcover plants.

Not many garden ornaments were seen, apart from a garden bed, handing basket and a swing. One bird bath and a large pot of geraniums.

Despite their name, pigs’ ears looked attractive.

Also seen were some unidentified plants and a small yucca plant.

Carole Avenue is undulating, but a very floral walk.
