QUT Art Museum brings an exhibition of works from the National Gallery of Australia by Carol Jerrems. This absolutely fabulous collection of photographs from one of the greats of Australian photography captures the spirit of the social experiments that were occurring in the 1970s in Australia.
Carol's photographs work on multiple levels. On one hand they are documentary in style, spontaneous in nature but also beautifully artistic. These are not works of someone who is an outside observer to a culture, but a window into the artists world.
She not only lays her world bare, but herself physically as well. Viewing her works you feel invited into her world and it would be rude to refuse such a beautiful invitation.
Warning: This exhibition features nudity and adult language so is not suitable for children.
This exhibition clearly demonstrates why the QUT Art Museum is best art gallery in Brisbane for people who take their art seriously. While places like GoMA should be praised for their populist and children friendly approach to art, I, like many others, don't go to an art gallery to feel safe, but go to be challenged.
