On 7 July 2013, the State Library of Victoria will transform into a fantastic wonderland for children. A diverse range of events and activities has been planned to get the little ones delirious with joy.
There is something for everyone and children will be spoilt for options. Children can poke their heads through a huge photo of Library staff from the 1800s and snap funky pictures. There will be art and craft activities like making Ned Kelly helmets, family trees, miniature books and scrolls and so on. Using custom-made Lego with words, children can put together a story, a poem, or any other fabulous piece of work.
There will be opportunities to explore and discover Melbourne's rich culture and history. Next stop can be partaking in a role-playing treasure hunt through the library premises, organised by Pop Up Playground. There will be a Punch and Judy puppet show to have the kids rolling on the floor laughing. Awe-inspiring circus tricks will be demonstrated by a bunch of misfits.
Explorers Dimity Briggstoke and Reginald Jacoby will entertain kids with a fun tour of the library, aiding in the discovery of secret recesses and stories. While some people will be busy with tours, others can curl up and relax on comfy bean bags listening to fascinating fairytales. Children can also engage in creating exquisite masterpieces with the assistance of artists like Oslo Davis and Marco Luccio.
There will be talks on Ned Kelly's past along with a 2006 restoration of the world's first feature-length narrative film on Ned Kelly. A highlight of the carnival will be magic. Right from the Magic Castle in Los Angeles, illusionist Simon Coronel will conjure up jaw-dropping magic.
The carnival will even feature music with highly-acclaimed composer George Dreyfus conducting 17 musicians in his 5-minute fanfare.
After a full day of running, jumping and giggling, quench your thirst and satisfy your hunger with tasty treats and delicious drinks from Mr Tulk's café. The café is open between 10am and 4pm. The carnival will commence at 12pm and will draw its curtain at 6pm.
