Gone are the days of the simple school fete featuring an egg-and-spoon race or two and some scones and jam. No, today's fete rolls out with all the flair and festivity of a professionally run carnival, and Carnegie Primary School 's fete on Saturday 28 February promises to be no exception.

The gates open at 11am and the fun continues right through until 5pm. The school's grounds will burst to life with rides like the stomach-churning Hurricane, dodgem-style F1 Cars, Combat Challenge Obstacle Course and the gentler Chair-o-Plane, Bouncy Castle, Giant Slide and farm animals certain to delight kids of all ages. Pre-purchase unlimited ride wristbands for the discounted price of $30, or pick them up for $35 on the day, with single rides costing between $3 and $6 a pop.

For the market-loving mums among us, stalls of homemade treats like jams and preserves, cakes, crafts and handmade jewellery will offer the chance to pick up some lovely and unique bargains.

Dad's, don't worry, there's also plenty for you with a BBQ, souvlaki and Indian among the food stalls for starters, as well as plants for the green thumbs and a monster hamper raffle for bargain hunters who possess a lucky streak.
