McLaren Vale is one of South Australia's iconic destinations for lovers of wine. Even if you aren't a big wine connoisseur, it is still worth the drive down south. Located only 40 kilometres from Adelaide, the drive is relaxing, and the vineyards and scenery there are picturesque.
Carmel's Special pizza - cheese, bacon, ham, chorizo, capsicum, onions, olives, and mushroom
If you do make it there, tucked away on Main Street, is a little place called Carmel's Restaurant. Family owned and operated, you can come there for lunch, dinner, or even just a drink at the bar. They have plenty of pizza, pasta, schnitzels, steaks, and even a couple of Mexican dishes such as enchiladas and chimichangas (deep fried burritos).
My partner and I decided on a Carmel's Special pizza and a gourmet chicken breast schnitzel pack. We ordered these as take away, found a nice green park, and made a picnic out of it. The pizza and schnitzel pack were very filling and delicious.
Gourmet chicken breast schnitzel Hot Pack, served with chips and salad
Next time we head out there, I think I might try their signature dish - American spare ribs, twice cooked until sticky in a BBQ sauce, served with coleslaw and chips. Yum! My mouth is watering already.
we had an excellent dine in meal there the other night. Staff and service was excellent even though they were flat out, food generous and very tasty. My only comment would be that the pulled pork could have been a little less smoked.
