Get your fresh produce at this farmers' market
Farmers' Markets are always a delight to attend for me as I just love getting my produce direct from the grower. The Carlton Farmers' Market is one such market where the farmers and producers who attend are accredited with the Victorian Farmers Markets Association. This means they have genuinely grown, baked, looked after or made the food they are selling.
Carlton Farmers' Market is held on the 1st and 3rd Saturday of each month at the Carlton North Primary School (CNPS). CNPS is located on the corner of Canning, Lee and O'Grady Streets, in Carlton. The next market will be on 20th October, 2018, then 3rd November, from 8.00 am to 1.00 pm. The market after that is on 17th November, and then the 1st December, 2018.
The market used to be held at Carlton Primary School, however, for the time being, they are doing building works and upgrades to the school's facilities. The markets are therefore now at the North Calrton School for the time being.
Entry to the market is via the O'Grady Street gates and you can get to these markets via public transport (bus route numbers 250 and 251; tram numbers 16 and 96). If you are coming by bike, take the paths of Rathdowne Street or Canning Street. There is also limited car parking if you wish to drive to the markets.
Carlton Farmers' Market also has a playground and some open spaces for the children. So that you can sit down and relax, there is also some outdoor seating, where you can partake of some of the food and drink available at the markets!
The social enterprise, Harari Foods first started at these Carlton Farmers' Markets. They had the support of the City of Melbourne, and they will continue to build on waste-free initiatives through the City of Yarra Partnering for Sustainability grant. For this reason, please bring your own coffee mug and reusable bags to the market. This will make a positive impact on our local food system and the environment!
These markets are run by the Melbourne Farmers Markets. They are a not for profit social enterprise dedicated to Victorian food and producers. They also have an interest in "seasonal produce, biodiversity, sustainable farming practices and strengthening relationships between the consumer and the producer."
Please note: When working with farmers, it CAN happen, due to unforeseen circumstances, that one of the listed producers is not at the event they are listed for. These lists are updated every Thursday.
The list for the last market included:
Mount Bernard Olives (winners of gold medal awards)
