I love trying new food and new restaurants. My other passions are Origami and Pokémon

Recently opened, Carl's Jr at Kilburn in Adelaide is part of an international chain of restaurants that began as a hot dog stand operated by Carl Karcher in 1941. Their first service restaurant, specialising in offering a good range of burgers, was opened in 1945 in Anaheim, California. Carl's Jr at Kilburn proved to be very popular with the locals; there was a large crowd present when we went there for dinner. Service was very efficient and customers did not have to wait long to get their food. Customers also get unlimited refills should they choose to order a drink with their meal.

Prepared using beef patties made with 100% Angus Beef, the patty in their Portobello Mushroom Thickburger had the degree of charred flavour that we love and the sautéed Portobello mushrooms added an earthy element to the burger. The rich taste of the burger was balanced out by the fresh lettuce and tomatoes and the Swiss cheese helped to tie everything together.

For those not in the mood for beef, Carl's Jr has a decent range of chicken burgers, many of which are made with grilled chicken breast. The chicken in the Hawaiian Chicken Sandwich was cooked just right and the grilled pineapple slice added a bit of sweetness to the dish. Rather uniquely, the burger included Teriyaki sauce which gave it a delectable sweet-savoury flavour.

The portion size of their Chilli Cheese Fries was quite generous and can be shared if you wish. The fries were fried to golden brown with fluffy interiors and the degree of spiciness of the chilli is suitable for those not used to spicy foods. To our delight, the chilli was of the right texture to avoid marring the crispiness of the fries, which contributed to the enjoyment of the dish. It normally comes with a topping of cheese but we were able to have it omitted as my father is not a fan of cheese.

Aside from their beef and chicken burgers, Carl's Jr also has a selection of dishes that can be ordered for breakfast. The Breakfast, a burger featuring a beef patty, egg, bacon, cheese, hash brown nuggets and ketchup is available all day.

Ambience is what you would expect from a fast food restaurant, with the carpark in front offering convenient off-street parking.
